Chambray Shirt

For my garment a month I have decided to make a chambray shirt using McCall's 6436. The fabric I bought earlier this year from Tessuti's. Its a lovely soft light coloured chambray. This pattern appeals, because I don't need to make a FBA, it has already done that, very exciting.

I'm making view D without the pockets on the bust, I don't need anything more there. I haven't made a shirt for a very long time so it will be a challenge. I am looking forward to sewing this pattern. I'm hoping it will be made quite a few times.

Commitment and Goals and of course fabric

My sewing has been sparse lately. I'm just not feeling it at the moment and I'm not sure why. I have a million ideas in my head but the lack of drive is missing, so the ideas are just ideas. So I have decided to set some goals and to make a commitment to sew every day. Even if its 10 minutes ,I think it will help me to get going again. That is my goal this week.

However when my sewing is a bit slow my fabric buying accelerates. I never know why this is, anyway I bought some gorgeous fabric from Tessuti's. The first is a beautiful double georgette. It is quite a large pattern so I think a simple shirt or top will be gorgeous.

Then these 2 knits. They are a slub open knit.  I couldn't decide which one so I bought the charcoal and stone. I love these and I can't wait to make them up.

So not much sewing but fabric buying. I am making a commitment to sewing every day even if its only a few seams.

Little black Moneta

I did some sewing this weekend, I finished my black Moneta. I really enjoyed making this pattern. It went together so well as everyone in the sewing world seems to say. I found using the clear elastic was quite easy as well. i had never used this before
I shortened the bodice by 25cm but it meant it was more an empire line dress, which is fine but next time I think I will make the full length bodice so the waist is closer to my waist. I normally have to shorten everything. The instructions were very clear and it came together easily.

The fabric was a black I had in my stash. I didn't quite have enough for the sleeves so I decided to do lace sleeves. I think the effect is quite nice. I wish my photographer told me my bra strap was showing but he wouldn't have even noticed. He's also very tall so looks down on me.

I am happy with this dress. I like the neckline and its very comfortable. I think I will get a great deal of wear out of this dress.

Next time I will lengthen the bodice and also just lengthen the skirt a little. I think I will make quite a few of these dresses. They are comfortable and easy to sew. Great for layering as well.

Lack of Sewing

There certainly has been a lack of sewing. Work has been totally consuming with parent teacher interviews, a new start to term and just getting back into the work routine. Life has certainly been a bit hectic and tiring, but I survived and am hoping to start some more projects.

I bought several Burda patterns to make some tunics.

I should do some winter sewing but winter lasts 5 minutes in Sydney and I think we may have just had winter in the last couple of weeks but I would love to make a cape, I may start this today. I find it hard to sew for winter. I'm not sure if its because we have such a short winter or just that as a Sydneysider I am just in denial about having any winter. Anyway I love this pattern and I had this fabric in my stash.

The pattern is Vogue 8959. The wool is a lovely mushroom colour and the lining is a quilting fabric I found. I'm going to make view A. For cool mornings I think this could be ideal. I still have to finish a few projects but with life back to normal I think ( hoping) my sewing enthusiasm will return.

Holiday

 No sewing because I have been travelling. I had a wonderful time in Canada with my daughter. It was so wonderful to see her after 7 months and very difficult to leave, when I won't see her for another 7 months. I had so many plans to sew for the trip but  unfortunately these plans never came to fruitition but I do have some pants cut out and a half finished black Moneta dress which I will get to this weekend, hoefully. My plans are to start sewing when my head feels like its normal again, I hate jetlag.
For Australians if you want to travel then jetlag is part of the deal. The older I'm getting the more difficult it is recovering though.

Embracing Canada Day.

We had a lovely time. Now back to reality. I actually didn't buy any fabric this holiday, a bit sad but I didn't really look either.

Little Black Moneta

I am hoping to sew a little Black Moneta this week. I am going to Canada next week to see my daughter. She has been away since last November, having a great time in the Ontario and now in Whistler. I am super excited to go and visit and I would like to sew a few new clothes. Hopefully that will work. The only problem is my dad is having a knee replacement this week and at 83 any operation is dangerous. I'm sure it will all be fine.

So I decided to try and sew the Moneta. I love all the versions out there and I'm hoping this will work out well. It's a lovely black knit, I don't know where from and I want to put some lace on the bodice. Anyway that's the plan.

Are there any fabric shops I need to visit in Vancouver? I'm only there for a couple of days then off to Whistler. Can't wait.

Elle pants and Vogue 8952

I can't believe how long it is since I have blogged, time just flies. I have the usual excuses of work, exams, marking and reports but now they are all done, thank goodness. I also have a lovely gentlemen friend who is just wonderful and fantastic to spend time with, so consequently there is little time for sewing at the moment. I must say though I am very happy about the reason why the lack of time.

Anyway I finished these pants and top a while ago but was having trouble getting any photos done. The self timer isn't working so I thought I better put some photos up. I love these pants they are so comfortable, like wearing track pants to work. I used my Style Arc pattern Elle pants. I love this pattern. This is the fourth pair of pants I have made . I made a size 18 and just extended the seam over my round tummy. Other than that they fit really well.

The fabric is a ponte knit from a US on line store. I'm not quite sure which one. They are super comfortable.
The top I made in a black knit that I bought from Tessuti's. It is a lovey weight and drapes beautifully.
The pattern is Vogue 8952. I made view A. It fits really well the only problem I had was I put the front in on the wrong side. Note to self,  Don't sew black at night! I didn't realise till I had finished I had put the front in using the wrong side but you really can't tell. The only thing is the raglan I don't think fits properly.

I have worn this top quite a few times. I like the top I don't like the hem sides they are a bit pointy. I prefer a rounded hem. Generally a very successful outfit.
