Inspiration

Oscar De La Renta dress. Just beautiful. I love the blue and white fabric. Evidently a stretch sateen fabric. I would love one of these dresses. Alas a couple of problems, it doesn't come in my size and also its over $1000 , well out of my price range.

Luckily I sew. It won't look exactly the same but hopefully I will have a lovely blue and white dress.
In my stash i found this fabric.
A lovely stretch cotton. I think I bought from Spotlight last year
The  pattern I think I will use is the Emery dress. A challenge in itself doing a FBA but I will give it a go.
The other source I will use is a RTW dress I have . It is one of my favourite plus size labels, an Australian label, i own this ship. I actually have 2 dresses in the style I like. The difference is they finish higher than the natural waist, more towards an empire line but not quite and they have a pleated lower skirt.
This is where my dilemma is, the Cynthia Rowley pattern Simplicity 1873 is probably closer to my ready to wear dress so possibly i should use that. Of course i should do a muslin , not something i ever do. Possibly I will try both patterns and see how I go.
Happy Sewing!

  1. Gorgeous fabric my sure either pattern will make a lovely dress. A muslin is a good idea before you cut into your fashion fabric and will help make sewing the real dress easier because you will have already gone through the main steps..

    1. Yes I definitely will do a muslin . Is it still a muslin when you don't use muslin? I guess it is.

  2. At first glance I thought your fabric was your inspiration's fabric, it's such a close match! Will be a beautiful dress.

    1. When I saw that dress that's what I thought. Considerably less than the asking price for the designer dress.
